Privacy Policy

How We Collect Personal Information

We collect any feedback you send us via email, the 'Contact Us' page, or other communication services, which may include your name, email address, and any other information you include.

If you create a membership account, we collect your name, email address, mailing address and contact information. We also collect the names of family members you include as part of your membership.

Email addresses are used only for logging in, responding to emails that you initiate, sending notifications that you request, and communication regarding your membership with us, our newsletter, meetings and other events by the Society.

Your mailing address is shared with the Astronomical League for mailing of their "Reflector" newsletter. 

Our server software may store basic technical information, such as your IP address and web-browser version, in temporary memory or logs.

How We Use Personal Information

We use your Personal Information primarily to provide you membership services. This is likely to include email and other communications related to your membership with TAS.

Rights Regarding Your Personal Information

You may request access to, correction or deletion of your Personal information held by TAS, or request that we limit the ways in which we process your information. TAS may choose not to delete Personal Information where the data is necessary to the integrity of TAS services. EU members of TAS have certain rights to restriction of data processing. Users may exercise any of these rights by writing to  membership@texasastro.org.

Security

The TAS uses industry-standard technological and organizational measures to protect Personal Information and other data from unauthorized disclosure, alteration or destruction, both online and offline. We use encryption to protect sensitive information, and all connections to our website are encrypted by default whenever possible. We make available only the minimal amount of Personal Information necessary to leadership, members, meeting attendees and others. However, data security presents many risks, and the TAS cannot guarantee that information will be 100% secure. The TAS relies on users to select secure passwords, to protect those passwords, and to use appropriate security software on their devices. Please contact the TAS with any information regarding unauthorized use of TAS services. 

Third Party Sites and Services

The TAS sites contain links to other sites and services, and other sites and services have links to the TAS. Please be aware that the TAS is not responsible for the privacy practices (or other practices, goods, services or content) of other sites or services. We encourage you to be aware when you leave our site to read the privacy statements of each website that collects Personal Information. This privacy statement applies solely to information collected by the TAS. 

Transfer to the United States and EU Compliance

The TAS and its servers are located in the United States. By providing information to the TAS, you are consenting to the transfer of that information to the United States and accepting that the transfer is necessary for our relationship with you.

Updates to This Policy

From time to time, the TAS may update this Policy to reflect changes in the law, changes in the TAS' services, or for other reasons. Updated versions of this Policy will be posted on TAS websites. If TAS make material changes to the Policy, TAS will send a copy of the updated Policy to members who have provided TAS with their contact information.
